“… the talented, young Italian virtuoso, Luciano Monaco, whose exquisite taste, refined sensibility, limpid technique and superb discipline put him in the top ranks among young masters of the classical guitar.”
Eliot Fisk
BIOGRAPHY
Luciano Monaco (born in Campobasso, Italy) began his classical guitar studies at the Conservatorio “L. Perosi” in Campobasso under Pasqualino Garzia. Demonstrating a rigorous commitment to his craft, he completed the ten-year academic program in just seven years, graduating with top honors under the guidance of Alessandro Paris. He later earned a Master of Arts in Music Performance at the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano, studying with Lorenzo Micheli, while also attending masterclasses at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena with Oscar Ghiglia. These experiences shaped his artistic approach, combining the Italian classical tradition with a broader international perspective. Monaco has been recognized on the international stage as an award-winning soloist, performing extensively throughout Europe and the United States. His interpretations have been praised for their clarity, expressive depth, and intellectual precision. In 2017 he completed the Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory in Boston, studying under Eliot Fisk and Jerome Mouffe, and in 2021 earned the Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, working in the studio of Adam Holzman. He currently holds a tenured position as Professor of Guitar at the Conservatorio “Umberto Giordano” in Rodi Garganico, Italy. He lives in Florence, where he continues to combine performance, pedagogy, and research on the evolving role of the classical guitar in contemporary culture.
